HAVE YOU QUESTIONS ABOUT CAPE VERDE?
A passport with residual validity of at least 6 months at the time of entry into the country is required.
Cape Verde is about 6 hours flight time from Italy on average.
The difference with Italy is minus 2 hours (-3 when daylight saving time is in effect here).
The Cape Verdean escudo is the official currency of the Cape Verde Islands. 1 EUR equals about 110 Cape Verdean escudo.
The best time to visit Cape Verde is between November and July; those who visit the country during these months will avoid the sultriest season of the year. There is no particular period that it is good to avoid in order to best experience one's vacation in Cape Verde. Thanks to the action of the trade winds on the coasts, temperatures remain mild; this makes it unlikely to find excessively muggy summer weather. The Trade Winds blow over the islands from the end of November; not surprisingly, this is the preferred time of year for lovers of water sports such as kitesurfing: surfing Cape Verde's waves is a must-do experience!
Among the main attractions to see in Boa Vista we recommend the Rabil oasis, the Viana desert and its exuberant white sand dunes. The wide Santa Monica beach, with its 20 km of virgin white sand, and Varandinha beach, famous for its caves carved out by the ocean. Don't forget to pay a visit to Povoação Velha, the oldest town on the island, where you can sample local products. If you are passionate about history, you can't help but go to discover the history of Boavista, visiting the oldest church of São Roque.
On the island of Sal we recommend visiting the small village of Espargos, where you can store in traditional Cape Verdean stores, and Palmeira: a fishing village characterized by its colorful houses. Also worth a stop is Pedra de Lume, an ancient village where there is the crater of an extinct volcano, a unique sight.
There are not many big stores in Cape Verde, but in the villages you can find local craft markets where you can find various items to buy as souvenirs. We recommend a stop in Santa Maria, on the island of Sal, where you can find some stores and a typical outdoor market.
Cape Verdean cuisine is based on simple dishes made with fish, legumes and rice. Typical meat dishes include "carne gizado," a meat stew accompanied by vegetables. The sea surrounding the Cape Verde islands is rich in fish, so your dishes will not be lacking in grilled fish slices or shellfish. Tropical fruits such as banana, mango and papaya are also very good.
Several excursions are available on both the island of Sal and Boavista.
You can explore the beautiful west coast of the island, where you can swim lulled by the crystal clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean with snorkeling opportunities. If you prefer a land excursion, you can take a tour to discover the west coast of Sal aboard a pickup truck or for the more adventurous, a 2-hour quad bike excursion to discover the south coast of the island, with its wonderful beaches, passing by the ancient salt flats of Santa Maria.
In Boavista we recommend visiting the south of the island, visiting the Rabil oasis and the Viana desert with its famous white sand dunes. Here, too, you will have the opportunity to visit the island aboard a quad bike, buggy or catamaran. Finally, we recommend, also in Boavista, to visit Cabo de Santa María, famous for the wreck of an old ship.
