Riaci Beach: everything you need to know

09.07.2024
Indice

Calabria is a fascinating region of southern Italy surrounded by two beautiful seas, the Ionian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea, making it one of the most beautiful seaside destinations on the peninsula. The region boasts an extraordinary natural heritage, whose beauty is best represented by its enchanting coasts with their crystal-clear water.

Riaci Bay and Beach

The Riaci Bay and beach is one the most precious gems of the Tyrrhenian coast. The bay is located near Tropea, one of the most popular seaside destinations in the region. The bay and its beach are renowned for their heavenly feel: golden beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a breathtaking natural scenery. The beach offers a peaceful and serene environment, but is also ideal for adventurers who love diving, snorkelling or visiting its sea caves.

The climate in the Riaci areas

As with our entire peninsula, the weather varies greatly from season to season. It all depends on the type of holiday you are looking for.

Summer stay

Since this is typically a tourist and seaside destination, the summer months from June to September are the most crowded. Temperatures range from 25 to 35 degrees Celsius, which is the perfect climate for those seeking to fully enjoy the enchanting beaches of Riaci as well as some relaxation in one of the beautiful seaside resorts of Calabria.

Autumn or Spring stay

In spring and autumn, the weather in the Bay of Riaci makes it less crowded and perfect for those who want to explore the area avoiding the summer crowds. Temperatures remain quite mild, fluctuating between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius and allowing you to still fully enjoy a wonderful experience on the beach of Riaci.

Winter stay

In the months between November and April, temperatures range from 10 to 15 degrees Celsius. Therefore, they not really suitable for the typical beach experience. However, the area retains all its charm, offering many hiking and cultural opportunities.

Where is the Bay of Riaci and where to stay

The bay of Riaci is located on the Tyrrhenian side of Calabria, not to be confused with the Calabrian area of Riace, which is on the Ionian side. The Bay is very close to Tropea, a perfect starting point for many different and equally beautiful destinations than Riaci beach. Tropea and its surroundings are the perfect place to stay if you want to be at the heart of the region’s best beach attractions, offering numerous accommodation facilities such as the magnificent VOI Le Muse Essentia. However, the Ionian side also has outstanding beaches and facilities, including VOI Floriana Resort, which is just a few metres away from the stunning Simeri Mare beach and will provide everything you need for a dream holiday.

What can be reached from the Bay of Riaci

Santa Domenica, Scalea and Capo Vaticano are just a few kilometres from Riaci and Tropea. The distance between Tropea and Santa Domenica is only 3 kilometres and here you can find some other heavenly beaches such as the beach of Formicoli, very close to that of Riaci. Its distance to Capo Vaticano is also short. In fact, Tropea is only a few kilometres away from marvellous places where you can enjoy the view of the Tyrrhenian Sea from its spectacular white cliffs. A little farther from Tropea, but equally unmissable when in Calabria, is Scalea. Here, within a couple of hours drive you will be able to enjoy an amazing seaside scenery flanked by an enchanting town and surrounded by breathtaking cliffs.
